It is vital for patients and therapists to set concrete and tangible goals. Consequently, my patients and I are a team. As a therapist, I focus on my patients’ strengths; quite frequently, patients forget about these strengths.

Therapy does not have to be grim! Humor is healing during times of pain and distress. I am also a greater believer in patients educating themselves regarding their diagnoses and concerns. Consequently, I have stacks of useful articles and handouts. Most important of all, I make sure that all patients who walk into my office will leave feeling that I listened, I cared, and I am someone whom they can trust.

Dr. Graves started her career in mental health as a social worker in outpatient and inpatient facilities that treated patients with severe, chronic mental illness. After returning to school to complete her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, she has worked with child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Dr. Graves sees individuals, couples, and families. She is a Certified Eye Movement Desensitization and Recovery (EMDR) Therapist, the treatment of choice for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. Dr. Graves takes a special interest in LGBTQ issues, stating, “This population is chronically underserved regarding psychological and emotional concerns”.

Dr. Graves utilizes Cognitive-Affective Behavior Therapy to help patients learn more useful ways of thinking. For example, many of us are “All-Or-Nothing” thinkers, when life most always lands somewhere in-between. She also encourages her patients to draw on their strengths, especially the ones that they discount.
