I offer COUPLES AND INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING, as needed. I mix coaching, counseling and education.

Many adults were not diagnosed as children and grew up with terrible feelings of failure and feelings of inferiority. Or, if you were diagnosed, you were given academic help but no one addressed you psychological fears such as anxiety, shame, and not feeling like you were good enough. I coach adults to succeed in areas that they have given up on. You will learn new behaviors to help you meet your goals in life. Exercise, martial arts, sports, going to the gym, meditation, and nutrition are helpful. Medication needs to be individually considered.

ADHD adults are hard workers who have learned to feel badly about their own efforts. Avoiding or isolating, feeling stuck, and depressed usually have stopped them from attaining adult success.
You can change your history. My life’s work has been to help each individual experience their strengths and achieve their goals and feel successful.

A crucial component of success is providing support for parents and helping the family as a whole to achieve balance. I see families as a system that functions together. When one member is hurting or in pain, it affects everyone involved. I believe that the key to family regulation is improving the understanding and communication between parents and their children.  

My professional training includes a Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling and 125 hours of ADD / ADHD coach training from the ADD Coach Academy (www.addca.com). I serve the greater Kansas City and Johnson County area.

I also have extensive experience in cognitive and behavioral interventions and received extensive supervision in family therapy. Thus, I work with a number of families with children who have behavior issues stemming (at times) from A.D.H.D.

I am also have knowledge of special education and 504 rules and assist families with both public school interventions as well as planning for college and careers.

In addition to psychoeducational evaluations, I use a career test called the 16PF which matches personality to career and help families with appropriate interventions for college bound students who have attentional issues.

I pride myself on a straightforward approach to treatment with concrete goals. I believe that a “pills without skills” approach to ADHD is simply naive and I focus on having students (and sometimes adults) to EMPOWER themselves. I have worked with Olympic athletes, physicians, and other professional adults to understand and overcome their symptoms. In this regard, I have also treated a number of couples where ADHD has had an effect on their marriage or partnership.

As a therapist, I use a motivating and empowering approach to help my clients feel confident and able to address their issues. By learning new ways to think about choices and behaviors, I aim to foster healthier decision-making to create better outcomes. Through therapy, I believe that everyone has the opportunity to find balance and peace in their lives.

My approach to therapy is to prioritize what each person considers significant in their life, working to establish goals together. I also help people who are simply looking to learn more about themselves and get the most out of life.

Additionally, I work to help coordinate support services both within my office and in the community to help individuals further their progress.
