As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I examine symptoms and emotional disturbances as clues to underlying causes and conditions relating to early life experiences. The therapeutic relationship provides a safe environment to explore the unconscious attachments the client has to an earlier self, based on these life experiences. Change and growth occur as the client makes conscious connections between his or her presenting behavior and his unconscious material – patterns of thought or behavior, dreams, images, fantasies, recurring life themes, etc.
