I have been in private practice for over 30 years caring for people and their families who suffer with several psychiatric conditions. With two masters degrees, I worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital in adult psychiatry then child psychiatry as a supervising social worker for several years. This position provided a broad range of experience with patients and families in medical/psychiatric setting. My teachers were Hopkins faculty in the School of Medicine. After marrying my husband (a Hopkins psychiatric resident at the time, now an internationally recognized expert in ADHD), we eventually formed a private practice to care for patients. Over the years, our expertise and research has focused on ADHD in patients ages 16 and older. In addition, because ADHD people often have other psychiatric conditions, we are expert in diagnosing and treating all related conditions (executive function, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, Asperger’s, marital discord, underachievement, etc.) While my practice focuses on research-based effective therapy approaches, all care is individualized to a person’s specific need. I also invite family member’s to participate in treatment with the patient’s consent. Marital discord is frequently an outgrowth of ADHD and needs to be addressed to relieve the contention. Education about ADHD and communication skills work well for this.
