Dana Epps

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of West Georgia. Since 2005, I have practiced as a licensed therapist providing mental health counseling in community, hospital, and college academic settings, and in private practice for individuals, couples, families and groups.

My view of the counseling process is a relationship between client and therapist built on trust and mutual collaboration and commitment to reach clear and defined goals. It is my philosophy that by working in partnership, the counselor helps their client achieve insight, facilitate growth, lead toward making necessary positive changes, and resolve the issues that initially brought the client to counseling. My theoretical orientation and therapeutic approach to the counseling process and work with clients is rooted in person-centered, humanistic-existential theory.

I am not just a counselor by profession, it is a part of who I am; reflected in my personality, how I interact with others, and in my way of being as sensitive, caring and compassionate by nature. It is evident in how I work with client’s that non-judgemental acceptance of others and authenticity of self are strongly valued and influence my style as a counselor, creating a safe and supportive space for clients to talk, feel and be heard without judgement. I offer feedback and actively engage clients in conversation and, when appropriate, encourage the use of humor and not taking ourselves too seriously.
